Privacy policy

The short version

There are no accounts. The only form is the Feedback button. What you type into the tools stays in your browser. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages and tools are used, and it sets cookies. Links to reading platforms are affiliate links.

What you type stays in your browser

Questions typed into the yes/no and spread tools, birth dates and quiz answers are processed in your browser and are never sent to us or to analytics. When you finish a tool, analytics records only the result, such as which card came up, and never what you entered.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager. It records the pages you view, the site or link that sent you here (including tags like utm_source=share on shared links), approximate location derived from your IP address, device and browser type, language, how far you scroll, file downloads, clicks on partner links and the tool results described above. Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses.

Advertising features and Google signals are switched off. We do not sell this data or combine it with anything else. Detailed event data is deleted after 14 months; only aggregated reports remain.

Cookies and browser storage

• _ga and _ga_FRWRVY5JG7 are set by Google Analytics to tell visits apart and count returning visitors. They expire after up to two years; some browsers shorten this.
• nx_internal is set only in our own team’s browsers so our visits are left out of the statistics.
• The list of readers online on Mysticsense (see Other services) is kept in your browser’s session storage for three minutes and is deleted when you close the tab.
• Your theme, chosen deck, a random number that keeps your card of the day the same all day, and a closed banner are kept in your browser’s local storage. They never leave your device.

Affiliate links

Links to reading platforms may be affiliate links. They pass through a short redirect on this site (addresses starting with /go/), which records the click: time, the page you came from, the partner, browser type and country. We do not keep your IP address; to filter out automated traffic we keep a one-way hash of it that changes every day. The partner site then sets its own cookies to credit the referral, under its own privacy policy. If you sign up, this site may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Other services

Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address as part of that request. The site is served through Cloudflare, which processes request data to deliver pages and block attacks.

Some pages (yes/no and three-card results, the platform comparison and the Mysticsense review) show tarot readers who are online on Mysticsense right now. To do that, your browser asks mysticsense.com for its public list of readers online and loads their photos from Mysticsense’s image server. The request is sent without cookies and without the address of the page you are on; Mysticsense still receives your IP address, as with any request. The list is kept in your browser for three minutes so other pages do not ask again. Links to a reader’s profile go straight to Mysticsense with our affiliate code.

The Feedback form

If you send a message with the Feedback button, we receive what you type, the topic you chose, your email address if you leave one, the address and title of the page, your screen size, the language of the page and of your browser and whether it uses a light or dark theme (and your browser version, for “Something’s broken”). The message is stored on our server and a copy is emailed to the editors.

We use it only to fix the site and to reply to you. Your email address is never added to a mailing list or shared. Your IP address is not stored: a one-way code made from it is kept for one day to stop repeated spam. Messages are kept for up to 12 months. The form sets no cookies. To have a message you sent deleted, write to hello@tarotverdict.com.

How to opt out

Install Google’s Analytics opt-out add-on, block cookies for this site in your browser settings, or use a content blocker. Everything here works without analytics. Apart from messages you send with the Feedback button, we hold nothing that identifies you, so there is no profile to request or delete.
