A tarot card seen from its back inside a ring of twelve small constellations, with a lit candle, stars and gold orbits

Tarot compatibility: which cards are you together?

Two birthdays give two sets of tarot birth cards. Enter both, or send a link to the other person, and see how the cards read as a pair: their elements, their constellations and one card for the two of you.

Two birthdays, one pair

Don't know it? Leave it empty: you get a link to send them instead.

Dates stay in your browser. A link carries only a card name, never a date.

How the pair is read

Each person's cards come from the same arithmetic as the tarot birth card calculator: add the month, day and year, reduce the total to 22 or less for the personality card, and to one digit for the soul card. Then the code compares the two personality cards by four rules, the same every time.

  1. Elements. Every Major Arcana card carries an element through its sign or planet in the Golden Dawn system. Same, friendly, neutral or contrary elements describe how two approaches meet, as in the card combination calculator.
  2. Constellations. Greer groups the cards by the digit they reduce to. A shared constellation is read as one theme worked out in two ways.
  3. Matches. The same personality card, the same soul card, or two neighboring numbers in the Major Arcana.
  4. One card for the pair. This page also adds the two personality numbers and reduces them the same way. This last step is our own rule, not Greer's.

An example, worked out

July 14, 1985 gives Strength. April 13, 1975 gives The World and The Empress. Read as a pair:

Elements
Fire + Earth · neutral
Constellations
8 and 3
Card of the pair
Justice (11)

Fire and Earth share only one quality, so the elements count as neutral. That is read as two styles that sit side by side without changing each other much.

Your constellations differ: 8, the principle of Courage and Self-Esteem, and 3, the principle of Love and Creative Imagination. That is read as two separate themes, each of you carrying something the other does not.

On this page we also add your two personality numbers the same way to get one card for the pair: 8 + 21 = 29, then 2 + 9 = 11, which is Justice. Read it as the theme you share, not as a forecast.

Questions

What is tarot compatibility by birthday?

Each person gets tarot birth cards from their date of birth, by Mary K. Greer's arithmetic: month, day and year added together and reduced to a Major Arcana card. The two sets of cards are then read side by side, the way a reader would read two cards that turn up together.

Which card is compared, personality or soul?

Mainly the personality card, the first one the arithmetic gives. It is read as the way a person meets people and situations, which is the part two people see of each other. Soul cards come in through the constellation: a shared soul card means a shared constellation.

Is this a compatibility score?

No. There are no percentages here, and no pair of cards is good or bad. The cards describe two patterns and where they meet; what you make of that is up to the two of you.

What does the invite link contain?

Only the name of your personality card, for example the Empress. Your date of birth never goes into the link or anywhere else: the calculation runs in your browser.
