Cards about withdrawal, endings, delay or illusion. They rarely mean never — usually not yet.
How a yes or no reading actually works
A one-card answer is the oldest form of divination there is, and the most misunderstood. The card does not know the future. What a single draw does well is force a question into a shape you can answer — which is why the phrasing matters more than the card. “Should I text him” is readable. “What is going to happen with us” is not a question, it is an anxiety, and any card you pull will seem to confirm whatever you already feared.
The verdicts here follow the standard reading of the deck rather than a random generator. Cards carrying forward motion, completion or clarity — the Sun, the Ace of Wands, the Three of Cups — read as yes. Cards about withdrawal, delay, endings or self-deception — the Hermit, the Five of Pentacles, the Moon — read as no, and almost always mean “not yet” rather than “never.” A handful of cards refuse a clean verdict on purpose: the Two of Swords is a decision you are avoiding, and no honest reading turns that into a yes.
Reversals flip the answer, with one exception. An upright yes drawn reversed becomes a no; an upright no reversed softens to unclear rather than swinging to yes, because a blocked obstacle is not the same thing as an open road. If you prefer the simpler tradition, switch reversals off above and read the deck upright only — both approaches are legitimate and neither is more accurate.
Ask once per question and sit with the answer. Redrawing until the deck agrees with you is the one habit that turns a reading into a slot machine — if you find yourself doing it, the honest answer is that you already know what you want and are looking for permission.
