Upright meaning
Death almost never means literal death. It marks a definite ending that makes room — a chapter genuinely closing, not fading. The card is not gentle, but it is clean: what ends here does not come back in the same form.
Death reversed
Holding on past the point of usefulness. The change is happening anyway; resisting it only extends the difficult part.
In love
A relationship ending, or transforming so completely that the old version is gone. Sometimes the end of a pattern rather than the partnership.
In career and money
A role, project or industry chapter closing. Often precedes something better, but the card asks you to actually let go first.
